ON TRACK with David Scoggan – Indy GP Qualifying Report

All month long, our racing guru David Scoggan is blogging LIVE from the track! Check back here regularly for a dose of Dave’s wit and whimsy.

Swedish rookie driver Felix Rosenqvist, in just his fifth NTT IndyCar start, grabbed pole position by a mere .02 seconds from his teammate Scott Dixon as the Chip Ganassi Honda duo swept the front row for the sixth running of the INDYCAR Grand Prix.

Hondas dominated the day as Jack Harvey and rookie Colton Herta make up row two, with the Chevy-powered entries of Ed Jones (for ECR) and Team Penske’s Will Power on row three. The balance of the top twelve (in order): Graham Rahal, Simon Pagenaud, Marcus Ericsson, Sebastien Bourdais, Takuma Sato, and Spencer Pigot.

Chilly conditions created problems for drivers trying to get their tires up to optimal temperatures in a normal manner, but there were no incidents other than a few trips through the grass. Tomorrow’s schedule has Indy Lights qualifying kicking off the day at 8:30, while the IndyCar warmup is at 11:15 and the Grand Prix goes green at 3:30.
